How to Move Your Practice Forward as a Relationship Builder

You know your practice team, you know what makes them tick because you have paid attention. You understand their struggles and their frustrations and you enjoy working it out together.

If you are a Facilitator Leader then you know how important it is to build trust within your team and build relationships as you want to grow together and move forward together.

Being a friend is great and any employee would agree that having a good relationship with their boss would be an ideal situation. However, as wonderful as it is to be supportive, patient and to be a ‘good friend’, these qualities might stand in the way of finding the right team to support you and your business growth.

Running a high performing medical practice takes a lot of hard work, a great business plan and a strong team.

Choosing the right people for your practice is vital to your success.

How Do You Choose The Right Employees?

You will need to consider the culture of your practice and choose people who embody a similar set of values.

  • Understand your needs - get crystal clear on the role you are hiring for today and how it could possibly evolve for your future needs. Remember that all support staff should be cross-trained for maximum efficiency, and be team players. A small clinic relies on everyone doing their part and from time to time, team members may have to fill in for somebody else if needed.

  • Don’t Rush The Process - there is nothing wrong with taking time to think about your applicants. Don’t be tempted to hire the first person through the door. As a Facilitator Leader, you will undoubtedly listen well during the interview process but make sure that you keep in mind that the person you will hire needs to be able to keep up with you and not need you to hold their hand.

  • Don’t Dismiss Imperfect Qualifications - you might be looking for a certain type of person from a certain educational background but don’t overlook people who can do the job and bring other qualities such as; knowing how to use new technology or perhaps they have experience working in a rural clinic.

  • A Great Environment Will Keep Your Patients Coming Back - If your patients consistently see the same friendly faces that they know they can rely on, they will always come back to you and refer others to your practice. The quality of your staff will breed quality into your practice and your business will be seen as an asset within your community.

Having a revolving door of employees will break down the culture of your practice. Your staff are a critical component to your business and the strength of your team will determine the strength of your business.
