You Legal: Finalist for Innovator of the Year

We are honoured to have been nominated as a finalist for the Innovator of the Year Award in the Australian Law Awards.

At You Legal, our vision is to Protect Purpose

The majority of our clients are in the medical industry, being doctors, allied health professionals and medical technology companies. They pursue a purpose that is higher than profit and we act to protect their purpose. We work with our clients to give them the confidence to lead, the courage to act and the freedom to choose.

Working to Protect Purpose means our team members are able to be an important part of the ripple effect of assisting the world in a positive way.

What Have We Been Up To?

We have been working hard to Protect Purpose for the last few years, but this has never been more challenging, or more imperative than it is in the current world health climate.

During the COVID pandemic period, we have further innovated our services by offering a money-back guarantee on certain services if we are not able to get a result for them. For example, we are working with many clients to assist them in obtaining a rent reduction. If they are unsuccessful, we refund our fee in full.

Also, during the COVID pandemic period, we developed a number of free assets for our community members, such as checklists for remote work and telehealth, a Remote Work Policy and a suite of documents to assist our community members with JobKeeper.

In addition to these extra activities, we have continued to “productised” our legal services for the medical and allied health space, allowing our clients to know precisely how much a project will cost before agreeing to our services.

We published a book called Growing a Medical Practice: From Frustration to a High Performance Business’  – which is a guide for medical practice owners to build a legally compliant medical practice, and we developed an online community in a private Facebook group called You Legal for Doctors, where members are able to ask questions about legal issues and post articles there.  We use this space to gift our community members information that will add value to them and protect their business.

Meeting our clients where they’re at means we are able to deeply understand our client, and thus can add deep value very quickly to them, protecting their patients and their practice.

Our Culture

This doesn’t just add value for our clients, it inspires our team. We have the privilege of supporting people who have a purpose that is higher than profit. We know that the work we do for You Legal has a purpose in the world that makes the world a better place.  This is a rare experience for lawyers to have on a daily basis.

Protecting Purpose, of course, also means protecting our Purpose. We hold strategy meetings with our team to set goals together, and we listen.  Our weekly huddles with the Operations Team are effective at focusing on solutions to issues and moving quickly through discussing, agreeing, testing and implementing new strategies.

Our quarterly strategy meetings include a team member from the legal team and looking at the business direction for the next 90 days.

Our team is diverse, they are diverse in skills and thinking, our team lives across 5 different countries so are both culturally diverse and have different faiths, some team members have never worked in a law firm, which keeps the thinking fresh. Many of our team members work remotely (by design – not by accident of a health crisis) and in this environment, the culture of innovation can thrive.

Finding the right people, who are solutions-focused, and cultivating a balance between mentorship and independence has created the rich culture we have today.

This nomination is a testament to You Legal’s commitment and vision to Protect Purpose
